Do you need good works to get into heaven?

Matthew 25:31–46 to see what Our Blessed Lord’s criteria are for getting into heaven. That said, a person does NOT get into heaven only because of good works. A person ONLY gets into heaven because of the sacrifice of Our Blessed Lord on the cross where He atoned for our sins and enabled us to be children of God.

Can’t be saved by works alone?

God’s Word says that we are saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus and not by our own efforts or works (Ephesians 2:8-9). Grace alone means that God loves, forgives, and saves us not because of who we are or what we do, but because of the work of Christ.

Do good deeds earn you a place in Heaven?

Although some of the deeds may be good things to do to please God after one is saved, they do not earn anyone a place in heaven. None of man’s good works are mentioned in the Bible as ways to heaven.

Can a good person make it to Heaven on their own?

Only a good God Who sent His perfect Son could get us to heaven and that’s by repentance and faith. There is no way that a good person will ever make it to heaven on his or her own but only bad people forgiven by a very good God. There is positively no other way to get there.

Do good deeds outweigh bad deeds?

None of man’s good works are mentioned in the Bible as ways to heaven. It may be natural thinking that if good deeds outweigh the bad deeds, that we will get to heaven. The Bible, God’s only word on the subject, clearly states that salvation is not of good works! Jesus is the only way – plus nothing!
