If your ultimate aim is to join them, you should consider dropping a year. But, if you are satisfied with any other college which you get under the JOSSA counselling then please dont drop a year as this is not the end of the world. You can work hard during your college and that is what matters.

Whether your degree, for example, is from UCLA or from less prestigious Sonoma State matters far less than your academic performance and the skills you can show employers.
